We are excited to see your children after our long break! If your child will be attending Kindergarten in District 742 this fall for the 2012-13 school year, please register at the Welcome Center at Roosevelt Early Childhood Center. Please bring your child’s birth certificate to registration. Let us know if you have questions.
PAKRAT Books!
PAKRAT Parents and Kids Reading A Lot Together
Today your child will be going to the library to check out 2 books. Each child will be given a PAKRAT bag to keep their books in. The books need to be kept in the bag when the books are not being read. Please help your child remember to return their books each Thursday so they can check out new books. It is very important to read these books with your child every night. After your child is familiar with the words, you can encourage your child to read the books to you. Thanks for reading with your child and taking care of Madison’s books!
Madison families rock!
Wow! You helped our school raise over $15,000 last week for the BLEND Walk-a-Thon fundraiser! This is AMAZING! Thank you to everyone who donated!
Apple Tasting :)
Today at school we tasted red, yellow, and green apples. Please ask your child about the paper apple he or she brought home and they can tell you what color apple they liked best!
One week to go!
Our Walk-a-Thon fundraiser is next Wednesday, October 19. Please help your child keep
collecting donations and return the donation envelope by the 19th. We will be walking during our gym time. Thanks for supporting Madison School!
Picture Day!
Tomorrow (Wednesday, Oct. 12) is Picture Day for Preschool! Every child will be photographed. Please send back the picture form tomorrow if you would like to purchase pictures.

Please check your child’s backpack today for 2 important forms.

Syllables are fun!
We are learning about syllables (word parts) at school! Some words have 1 syllable (dog, fish, and chair). Some words have 2 syllables (table, cookie, apple). Some words have 3 syllables (newspaper and pajamas). We teach children to clap while saying a word to find out how many syllables or word parts are in each word. Children love to clap how many syllables are in their names and objects around our classroom. Help your child to hear syllables by clapping names of people in your family. Example- Beth (1 clap=1 syllable) Car ter (2 claps=2 syllables).
Rhymes
We have been learning nursery rhymes at school! Ask your child to tell you a rhyme called Jack and Jill and 1, 2 Buckle my Shoe!
